An impacted tooth is one that fails to erupt in a normal fashion, or one that only erupts partway into the mouth. Canine teeth are the second most common teeth to become impacted, following third molars. A canine tooth may become impacted on either the facial or palatal aspect. Palatal impactions are more common. The overall incidence of a maxillary canine tooth impaction is about 1%. Surgical exposure followed by orthodontics to bring the previously impacted tooth into proper alignment is the recommended treatment.
